Old School
Is there anything besides your cat that hasn’t been been affected by COVID?
Kodak made a stunning announcement last week that it was changing the color of it’s film canister.  Well, not the entire film canister, just the end cap.  And only for awhile, until they go back to the original color.
What would make Kodak do such a drastic change?  More importantly, why did they make an announcement about it?  And why would anyone care?
Kodak has a loyal following of film users.  They expect fresh and delicious film inside of every canister.  Our customers will notice the change. So, Kodak let us know so that we can reassure our film customers that even though the canister looks different, the film inside it is the same.

Silver is the New Black

It Takes a Village to Make a Canister

Kodak does not hand craft each film canister our of ore mined from Colorado.  They rely on suppliers to provide materials to the manufacturers that make the canisters.

Here’s where COVID and teh Pandemic comes in...

Due to worldwide shortages (ahemCOVID), the supplier cannot get the steel that the manufacturer uses to make the end caps.  So they had to hook up with another source for steel.  It’s a different type of steel, but it will get along just fine with your film.

Silver is the new black

The new temporary end caps will be silver instead of the traditional black.  The manufacturer is not going to waste the time or money to paint it black just so it can match their standard look.  They are hoping that no one makes a big fuss for the next few months.

Life will get back to normal

The supplier should be able to provide the original steel to the manufacturer in September.  The film canisters will be back to their original colors and our lives can resume.
Now you know.
