CAPTURING THE MOMENT IN COMFORT AND STYLE

Experience True Freedom, Comfort, and Endless Creativity on the Road with a Photographer's Ultimate Partner

Experience freedom, comfort and endless creativity on the road

Imagine a world where the horizon is your only limit, where stunning landscapes and captivating scenes unfold at every turn. As a photographer, the pursuit of the perfect shot often involves long hours, early mornings, and late nights. But what if there was a way to seamlessly blend the thrill of adventure with the comfort of home?

By eliminating the constraints of traditional travel, you can immerse yourself fully in the creative process. No more rushing to find accommodations or compromising on comfort. Instead, you can wake up to breathtaking sunrises, spend endless hours exploring hidden gems, and capture the magic of the moment, all while enjoying the convenience of a mobile haven.

On a recent photography excursion to the Eastern Sierras of California – more specifically Alabama Hills – I had the opportunity to utilize an amazing off-road capable camper van built by a Fresno, California based company – Field Van.  This vehicle was perfect for the conditions I faced in Alabama Hills, and provided opportunities to break free from the ordinary in a level of convenience and comfort I had not experienced before on such a journey.

A Vehicle Built for Adventure

On the outside, the Mercedes Sprinter van is well upgraded for off-road excursions.  From Heavy-duty bumpers and lighting, racks and exterior storage, off-road capable wheels and tires, and even an impressive suspension lift kit offering additional ground clearance and mobility.  This rig was ready to go to work.

On the inside – WOW – what an interior space.  It seats multiple passengers, features a fold-out bed for two, and has an electronic pop-top roof for added headroom and sleeping space for two additional people.  The van’s interior cabinetry keep essentials organized, while a kitchen cabinet with sink, cooktop, refrigerator, and storage drawers allow you to cook and store food on the go. There’s a storage compartment for a cassette toilet, and even a  “garage” space in the back that includes an outdoor shower hookup. Solar panels and battery storage power everything inside (including camera batteries and computer equipment), making the van a fully off-grid, off-road camper and mobile workspace.  All this and a restful space that provides shelter from the elements and easy access to all the gear I decided to haul with me.

Like I mentioned before, convenience and comfort all within an off-grid off-road camper van.  Onboard solar and battery storage kept everything in the van powered and charged up (including tons of camera batteries and computer equipment), while the restful space provided shelter from the elements and easy access to all the gear I decided to haul with me.

The Perks of a Field Van

Field Van offers a unique blend of freedom and functionality – elevating my photography adventure to a level unknown until now.  The perks of adding such a capable piece of equipment to the excursion were apparent while using the vehicle, but became even more apparent when the trip was over and I transitioned back to utilizing my truck. Here’s a quick recap of what I found most noticeable:

Ultimate Flexibility:

  • Spontaneous Exploration: With a camper van, you can embrace spontaneity. Discover hidden trails, chase fleeting light, and adapt to changing weather conditions without a second thought.  The unique locations presented by Alabama Hills were very accessible with this vehicle, and the shelter it provided in harsh conditions made it a possibility to attempt capturing images I would have otherwise missed out on.  After all, some of your most stunning images might be captured during cold, windy conditions, evenings at sunset, astrophotography late into the night, and early morning sunrises.
  • Remote Locations: Venture off the beaten path and capture unique perspectives that are inaccessible to traditional travelers – which is basically all of Alabama Hill.

Optimized Workflow:

  • Organized Gear: Keep all your photography equipment organized and easily accessible, streamlining your workflow.  From cameras and lenses, tripods, and lighting equipment, to seating and workspace, even extra cloths to help over plan for changing conditions wherever you go on your journeys.

Enhanced Comfort:

  • Restful Nights: Enjoy a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed, ready to tackle the next day's adventures.
  • A chance to regroup between locations or capturing images:  Take a quick break to get refueled, rehydrated, or even give the feet a rest with a quick nap inside the van.
  • Home-Away-From-Home: Relax in a cozy living space, cook delicious meals, recharge your batteries, and forget about unloading and reloading your gear to and from a hotel/motel room.
