Tesoro Viejo
For sweeping views of the rolling hills, Sierras, orchards, San Joaquin River, along with hawks, and the occasional bald eagle, the trails around the new Madera County community of Tesoro Viejo provides outstanding opportunities. There are 14 miles of trails - different lengths, and different degrees of difficulty, mostly easy.

Here are our favorites photo spots around Tesoro Viejo:
Tesoro Viejo Trail - Start this hike at the Kissing Gate. You will have beautiful views of the rolling hills, mountains, Friant Dam and the river.
Lost Oaks Trail - Point of Interest at the top of the hill called “Dam Fine View” and you’ll see why.
Tesoro Nuevo Trail - Easy flat walk with views of the rocky foothills and Sierras.

- Requires walking/hiking
- Trails are open dawn to dusk
- Best time to go: Fall, Winter and Spring. If you go during the summer, go early in the morning. There's very little shade along the trails.
Photo Tips
Make sure you check the trail brochure and map for where to park near the trail you want to take. The first time you go, take your smallest camera and most versatile lens. You’ll want to come back to photograph your favorite views with more specialized equipment such as a tripod, wide angle lens, telephoto lens.
