Elephant Seals - San Simeon
Action, adventure, sex (but no romance), tender moments, playful moments, even gentle peaceful moments-- It's all there for you at one time or another. You will never forget your visit to the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery. It's just a few miles north of San Simeon where you will find over 17,000 elephant seals packed like sardines all along vast stretches of beaches. You'll not only see them, but you'll hear all sorts of unique sounds: grunts, snorts and even a strange bell sound.
Different natural events occur during different seasons. For the most action, visit from October through March.
You cannot walk amongst the elephant seals, but you can get close up and personal to them with your telephoto lens. Or get a wide shot of the masses.
Here's an idea! Take a video with with audio. You'll never again complain about the sound of your spouse's flatulence.
