Join Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Jeff Aiello and his team of experienced photographers for an exclusive three-day photo event in the breathtaking Alabama Hills, located near Lone Pine, California. This iconic location offers exceptional opportunities for photographers and cinematographers of all skill levels.

The Alabama Hills' dramatic rock formations create a stunning foreground, while the towering Sierra Nevada—including the majestic Mount Whitney—provides a rugged and awe-inspiring backdrop. This is your chance to learn directly from Jeff and elevate your photography skills as you capture the natural beauty of the American West.

What to Expect:

  • Learn the OBTL creative process: Jeff and his expert team will show you how they tell a story using photography and videography.
  • A variety of stunning locations to shoot: Explore a diverse range of landscapes, from rugged rock formations to sweeping desert vistas.
  • Small Group Instruction: Enjoy a hands-on, intimate experience with a maximum of 15 participants.
  • Sunrise and Sunset Shoots: Capture the golden hour at two of the most beautiful times of day.
  • Full Moon Nighttime Shoots: Photograph the incredible night sky, including the Milky Way.
  • Time-Lapse Shoot: Learn how to create mesmerizing time-lapse photography.
  • Professional Support: Horn Photo’s team of photographers will assist you every step of the way.

Photography Workshop Itinerary

Please note: Our crew plans to take full advantage of spectacular conditions whenever and wherever they arise. Participants are welcome to join any or all scheduled locations, or, if they prefer, explore independently. Our approach is highly flexible to allow for creativity, spontaneity, and changing conditions.

Friday

  • 1:00 PM – Meet & Greet Lunch

  • 4:00 PM – Check-in at Lodging
  • 5:00 PM – Sunset Shoot at Alabama Hills
    Sub sandwiches, snacks, and water provided by Horn Photo
  • 8:00 PM – Nighttime Shoot
    Full moon conditions

Saturday

  • 5:30 AM – Sunrise Shoot
  • 9:00 AM – Breakfast (on your own)
  • 1:00 PM – Field Trip to Manzanar
  • 5:00 PM – Dinner (on your own)
  • 7:00 PM – Sunset Shoot
  • 8:00 PM – Nighttime Shoot

Sunday

  • 5:30 AM – Sunrise Shoot
  • 8:00 AM – Field Trip up Whitney Portal Road
    Up to 8,500' elevation
  • 12:00–2:00 PM – Lunch & Review

Price:

  • $2,000 per person
  • $400 deposit required to secure your spot
  • Remainder is due on or before April 17, 2026

  • Travel to Lone Pine, lodging, and meals are not included in the price.

About the Alabama Hills:The Alabama Hills, nestled at the eastern base of California's Sierra Nevada, offer one of the most visually striking and diverse landscapes in the country. Known for its rugged granite boulders, sweeping desert vistas, and towering peaks, this location perfectly embodies the essence of the American West. It’s also a place rich in cinematic history—over 400 Western movies and television shows have been filmed here, earning it the nickname “Hollywood Movie Ranch.” Iconic films like The Lone Ranger, Gunga Din, How the West Was Won, and Bonanza feature these stunning landscapes as backdrops.

Refund and Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellation by April 1, 2026: Full refund minus deposit.
  • Class Minimum Requirement: To ensure an intimate experience, the workshop is limited to 15 participants. The class will only proceed if at least 8 participants sign up by April 1st. If this minimum is not met, the event will be canceled, and all registered participants will receive a full refund. We will let you know when we reach our minimum.
  • Weather-Related Cancellations: In the event of extreme weather conditions or a BLM closure of the Alabama Hills, all but the deposit will be refunded.
