Problem-solving on Location

Join former Fresno Bee photo editor and current Fresno City College photography department head Thom Halls on a photo workshop and excursion!

This workshop is a double whammy. First you will meet on Saturday at Spectrum Art Gallery and then proceed to Lost Lake Park (about 30 minutes North of Fresno). You’ll spend the morning shooting up and down the river and some other spots that can yield some interesting results. Then during that week you will email your best three images. Thom will prepare a critique and on Thursday night later that week you’ll meet back at the gallery to share your images and experiences of the day with the entire group. It’s a blast!

Here are some of the practical learning goals for this two-part workshop:

• How exposure relates to mood
• Filters, what they mean and how to use them.
• Tripods / mono pods, your constant friend
• Flash, how to use in landscape photography and make if appear natural.
• Makeshift solutions for difficult problems and thinking through the physical adversity of a scene.
• Taking risks others won’t!

Peter Read Miller will be appearing and presenting at the Tower Theater in Fresno.

Peter Read Miller has worked for Sports Illustrated magazine as staff and contract photographer for over 20 years, with more than 85 covers to his credit.

In addition to shooting 25 Super Bowls, he has covered 14 NBA Finals, six Olympics, the Stanley Cup Final, the World Series, the Kentucky Derby, the NCAA Final Four, Men’s and Women’s World Cup Soccer and the World Championship of Freestyle Wrestling in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.

Peter’s other editorial clients have included Time, Newsweek, LIFE, Playboy, People, USA Today, Runners World, Money Magazine, and The New York Times. His commercial clients include Coca-Cola, Adidas, Panasonic, Footlocker Stores, Nike, Warner Brothers, Visa and NFL Properties. Peter has also been a guest speaker at UCLA, San Jose State, and the University of Tennessee.
